The Raintree House
Another interesting project by Hunton Conrad and Associates for a Hana client. There's an obvious nod to tree canopy living. I like the movement in the roof shapes, and the multi leveled openings for light and air. This approach is a clever way to tackle the challenge of building on a steeply sloping site.
Another fun design element is the "bouquet" treatment of the posts on the deck - grouping together three supports at the base, and then spreading them out like a stand of bamboo to meet the roof.
I'm glad Hunton chose to throw in the stone column. (I'm guessing it will be lava rock?) - This brings a distinctly Hana aesthetic into the project and pays homage to some of the 1960s era Hawaiian architectural styles.
